'..."Recovery doesn't end with the completion of a primary rehab program," said Cliffside Malibu's Program Director. "On the contrary, healing is and must be an ongoing process. Overcome Addiction With Expert Drug Treatment In Malibu
'Drug addiction is both a physical and psychological disease. By the same token, drug treatment must promote both physical and psychological wellness. The most effective drug treatment facilities are those which help their clients heal in body as well as in mind. In the end, there's simply no other way to ensure the long-term success of the recovery process.
Those principles, in turn, lie at the very heart of Cliffside Malibu's treatment philosophy. ....(more)'

The healing process doesn't end on the last day of primary rehab. On the contrary, patients need continuing support in order to develop the life skills and self-esteem on which all lasting recovery must be built. The best drug addiction treatment facilities, then, are those which provide the best aftercare services to their clients. Of these services, none is more important than a supportive sober living program.
Those principles, in turn, are the bedrock of Cliffside Malibu's treatment philosophy.
Cliffside Malibu is respected both for the quality of its caregivers and the elegance of its amenities. Since its founding, the exclusive prescription drug addiction treatment center has been the choice of upscale clients seeking expert treatment in a discreet luxury environment. As the center prepares to launch its new initiative, those clients can expect to be even better served on the road to recovery.
"We pride ourselves on providing our clients with the best possible rehabilitation experience," said a representative from Cliffside Malibu's clinical team. "Our luxurious sober living facility is an essential part of that experience, especially insofar as it helps residents prepare for the challenges of day-to-day living in a substance-free world."
Unfortunately, that sort of long-term thinking is precisely what distinguishes Cliffside from its competitors
Many drug addiction treatment facilities offer competent primary rehab programs to their clients. But only the most elite drug addiction treatment facilities invest sufficient resources in their sober living services. In fact, many of the most well-known drug addiction treatment facilities in Los Angeles provide marginal or even inferior sober living options for their residents. Unsurprisingly, those drug addiction treatment facilities routinely fall short of the promises they make in their advertising brochures.
For recovery patients and their families, say Cliffside administrators, that sort of failure is unacceptable.
"Primary rehab is the beginning of the healing process, not the end," said another Cliffside clinician. "At Cliffside Malibu, we understand that our clients trust us to help them get better forever, and we do everything in our power to do exactly that. Our commitment to sober living is a product of that underlying philosophy."
It's relatively easy to find drug addiction treatment facilities in Los Angeles. It's much harder, though, to find a facility specializing in treatment to stop drug addiction that genuinely cares about the long-term health of its clients. The caregivers at Cliffside Malibu are remarkable both for their professional expertise and for their personal passion. As Cliffside's successful graduates have learned firsthand, that combination can make all the difference in the world.(TransWorldNews)'

'...Opiate detox is the process you go through to remove all toxins and remnants of opiates from your body. When you start an opiate regimen, the first thing you will go through is opiate detox. Another part of your opiate detox regimen consists of learning about opiates. One thing you will learn is that opiates are used in medicines such as Vicodin or Oxycontin for pain. The chemical found in these drugs attach to the opiate receptors located in the brain and spinal cord. Once the body starts relying on the drug, the body stops functioning normally and then becomes physically dependent to the drug. At the time that the level of the drug falls below the normal amount that the body is used to, the withdrawal symptoms start occurring. The withdrawal symptoms are what show signs of a prescription drug addiction....'

Drug addiction, on its most fundamental level, is a disease. Drug addiction is not a moral issue. Drug addiction is not a character flaw, or an indication of personal weakness. Most importantly, drug addiction is not a choice.
As with any disease, drug addiction is not responsive to anything we might understand as individual will. A drug addict does not “choose” to be addicted, and a drug addict cannot “choose” to get sober. To believe that would be to believe that a cancer patient can “choose” to eliminate his tumor, or that a diabetic can “choose” to stop having diabetes. That’s just not the way it works.
But how does it work, then? Generally speaking, drug addiction functions on two levels: the physical and the psychological. Successful drug and alcohol rehab, it follows, must address both of these roots; any drug rehab program that privileges one at the expense of the other runs the very real risk of long-term failure. Drug rehabilitation can’t work unless it confronts drug addiction in all its forms.
And what of those forms? What’s the difference between physical and psychological drug addiction, and how do they combine to make substance abuse such a serious problem in the United States?
Physically, drug addiction works through chemical reactions in the human brain. Prolonged drug abuse can literally change the brain’s chemical composition, ultimately engendering a scenario in which the drug becomes an essential part of the body’s “normal” metabolic processes. Drug addicts, in this sense, need drugs to function, to survive; drug addiction is drug addiction precisely because those who suffer from it can’t live without maintaining their substance abuse habits.
The psychological roots of addiction are no less vexing. As an addict’s body comes to rely on a drug for physical viability, so does an addict’s mind come to lean on a drug for emotional stability. For an addict, a drug is like a chemical crutch: It provides support in times of trouble; it is an anchor in moments of crisis. Chronic drug abusers, you might say, lose the ability to face the world and themselves through any lens except that of a drug high, and need drugs in a way that, again, renders individual will or personal agency almost entirely moot.

With so many different drug rehab programs now available to choose from, how do you know which one is right for you? Here are a few different approaches to substance abuse treatment for you to take a closer look at:
The Twelve-Step Rehab Program:
This may be the most well know method, commonly mentioned in movies and TV shows where the storyline follows an addict through the recovery process… Remember 28 Days with Sandra Bullock? She plays an alcoholic named Gwen that basically ruins her sister's wedding and is forced into rehab. The movie follows Gwen to rehab where she is put through a 12 step program. In the movie, the 12 steps appear to be hugging, chanting, cleaning, climbing, singing, taking classes, and bonding… not sure that is the best reference.
A twelve-step rehab program really consists of a set of guiding principles that outline a course of action for recovery from substance abuse, addictions, compulsions and/or other behavioral problems. This was actually originally used by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) as a program for alcohol addiction recovery. But, after it became popular the program became the foundation for other twelve-step programs such as Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Co-Dependents Anonymous and Debtors Anonymous.
The American Psychological Association states that the method/process involves the following:
These are the original Twelve Steps as published by Alcoholics Anonymous:
- We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.
- Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
- Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
- Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
- Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
- Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
- Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
- Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
- Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
- Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
- Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
- Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Although the 12-Step Program is still very popular, there are many critics. People have been said to not believe in the "higher power" and therefore the 12 steps eluded them.
The Client Centered Approach:
Well known author Carl Rogers wrote an influential book called Client-Centered Therapy. In the book he suggests that there are 3 necessary steps for personal change:
- unconditional, positive regard
- accurate empathy
He believed that with these 3 items in the rehab process and/or relationship with the therapist, anyone could overcome basically any troublesome issue, including addiction. A study was done back in 1957 to compare the Client Centered Approach with a therapy based two-factor learning therapy and psychoanalytic therapy. The authors of the study actually were surprised to dine that the client-centered therapy proved to be the most effective out of the 3.
As always, there will be critics. Some argue that the findings in the case study may be skewed due to the therapist's outlook to the different approaches.
Here at Cliffside Malibu we believe in a custom tailored, personalized approach. We use cutting edge techniques, all evidence based – proven to have the highest success rate for guests that complete all 3 levels of care: Personalized Detox, Individual Rehab and an Aftercare Plan. Because all of our rehab programs are fully customizable, we believe our center stands out from the rest. This coupled with the fact that we provide luxurious amenities and around the clock service and support from an exceptional, highly trained staff.
Drug Rehab should be personal. We don`t believe that our guests should have to experience pain and suffering. We want to provide peace and comfort. When you come to us, you`ll sit with a trained counselor who will sit with you and your family and take the time needed to evaluate your personal needs before determining which treatments are appropriate for you. During your stay with us you will undergo Detox, if necessary, and based on the evaluation, you will be presented with an individual drug rehabilitation plan. Each plan is designed to meet the guest's specific needs to maximize the potential for success, while ensuring your stay is as comfortable as possible. Addictions are personal; shouldn't the rehabilitation process be personal as well?
